According to producer Jon Berg, the upcoming Minecraft movie will be faithful to the popular video game, which is strange considering the title’s unique premise. With the recent success of video game movie adaptations, such as The Super Mario Bros Movie and Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, it’s no surprise that Minecraft is next. As one of the best-selling games in history, a live-action Minecraft is sure to be a hit, and the high praise from Berg is certainly a good sign. Still, the producer’s tease regarding the film has presented a mystery.

The live-action Minecraft movie was announced way back in 2014, and the lack of development for so long indicates that Warner Bros wasn’t entirely sure how to approach the project. However, a release has finally been lined up for April 4, 2025, and the film’s producer has a lot of positive things to say about the project. Berg noted (via Screen Rant) that the Minecraft movie will be “an amazing movie” that will remain “true to the game.” This is precisely what you want to hear about a movie adaptation of a video game, but in the case of Minecraft, it’s a little strange.
